Our story and mission
Where it started
Our co-founder and creator, Simon Bertolino, knew he was called as a Christian to be a good steward of his body. But living off cafeteria and fast food, and facing all the numbers that come with eating healthy, made that difficult.
One day he had an idea: an app that works out the macros you need, then pulls the food from the caf into a macro meal plan.
The first prototype
On September 20, 2025, after drinking 440 mg of caffeine, something he had never had before, Simon sat down at 7 PM and coded straight through until 5 AM. Ten hours later, the first prototype was working.
His goal was to make it completely free, and he did get a working website. But with no one to market it, the project fell dead in the water.
Fletcher joins
That is when our other co-founder, Fletcher Stobaugh, came into the scene. Fletcher was frustrated that he could not tell how to eat well in the caf, and when he mentioned it to a mutual friend, the friend said that Simon had been working on an app for exactly that.
Fletcher and Simon already knew each other. On February 15, 2026, Fletcher texted Simon, “Tell me about CafGPT,” the informal nickname the prototype went by, and that message gave the passion project the spark it had been missing.
Finding the name
The app went through a few names on its way here: Harding Fuel for a brief stretch, Campus Fuel in March, and MacroPeak in early July. Over the summer, Fletcher did most of the development while Simon worked on bug fixes. Today we both do both.
Launch and rebrand
On August 20, 2026, Caf Coach launched as MacroPeak at Harding University, where we are both proud students. It has since grown to several hundred universities, with more added all the time.
After our Friends update on September 20, we decided it was time for a rebrand. MacroPeak was meant to cater to everyone, not just college students, but we realized we were building a college cafeteria app. So on October 6, 2026, MacroPeak became Caf Coach.
Our mission
We want every student to come to understand that their body is a highly valued, beautiful creation, and one to be taken care of.
We want to make caring for your body accessible to people without a nutrition degree or a kitchen, replacing guilt with encouragement and grace.
We also want to close the nutrition information gap in our nation and bring nutrition to people in need abroad. That is why we pledge 20% of our profits to Nutrition & Food Security Nonprofits. See our financial report.
